Upstream
Going north in the mountains
This time I visited Gifu Prefecture. Mountains occupy about 80% of the prefecture, and the spring water from the mountains becomes large rivers such as the Ibi River, Nagara River, and Kiso River before flowing through the city.
These are called Kiso Mikawa, and have been indispensable for life since ancient times alongside people's lives.
Going fast from Nobi Plain with the sun in the background, you gradually enter the mountainous area with many tunnels and drive for 1 hour from Gifu city. Arrived at Gujo Hachiman.
Water town
Gujo Hachiman
This town called Gujo Hachiman, called the town of water, has old townscapes north and south across the Yoshida River, which is a tributary of the Nagara River. The clear waterways that flow around here and there are tourist attractions including Sohsui, which is one of the 100 famous waters.
If you go a little upstream from the center of the city, you can see advanced fishing people aiming for chars and eels from spring to summer. Even on this day, the angler's figure could be seen from the car crossing the bridge. The morning mist in the mountains cleared up in the sun and the angler in the light felt divine.
